Single status certificates for marriage, powers of attorney for property, diplomas and transcripts for work or study, pension proof-of-life documents, and corporate documents for business. If a Chinese authority is asking for your U.S. document, it almost certainly needs an apostille.

First notarize the document, then obtain the apostille from the correct state authority, then arrange the certified Chinese translation. Doing these out of order is the most common reason documents are rejected.
